8 Sept - A bit of car touring

Rose bright and early to pick up a rental car. Oya and I hit the Wine Highway with the towns of Montepulciano, Pienza and Montalcino on our itinerary.

Half way to Montepulciano, an estate caught our eye and we pulled over for a delicious tasting of the Poliziano offering.

Later in Montepulciano, we ambled along the cobblestone streets drinking in the fantastic town. We stumbled upon an unbelievable foodie shop specializing in their own home-made pecorino. Mmmm...

On a lark, en route to Pienza, we turned off onto a dirt road and landed in the uber-modern Icario vineyard. Wowwwww, the vistas, the lush green vineyards and gorgeous facility.

Pienza itself is a town I can describe as nothing less than exquisite. Perched high on a hilltop, the views just go on forever and a rainbow added to the effect. Oya and I oooh'd and ahhhhh'd over their thick hot chocolate and biscotti as we peered out over the vineyards and faraway villages below.

By the time we hit Montalcino, we'd missed the nearby Sant'Antimo abbey and its Gregorian chanting monks. It was getting late so we mowed down on Oyas delicious charcuterie sandwiches with more of the Camucia deli's unbelievable eggplant parmeggiano. We thought we'd died and gone to heaven!
